All About Tulahead

HISTORY

The construction of Tulahead began in 1978 and with the help of many volunteers, we were able to hold our first camps in the summer of 1981.

Tulahead was established to provide a place for the children of Junior Adventure Hour (a children’s outreach ministry) and their friends to attend during the summer. The camp property was used for ranching before its purchase and in keeping with the western theme, the society was first named the J.A.H. Ranch Society. It was in 1991 that the name was changed to the Camp Tulahead Society.

As the camps continued to grow in numbers, we realized that the impact was far exceeding the small focus group we had started with and we were excited to expand our mission field.

The Lord has blessed the work of this ministry and the growth has been steady, we are now witnessing to over 500 campers each summer. This year we are celebrating our 25th anniversary in camping ministry and are excited to hear of the many miracles that God has continued in the lives of those who have attended Camp Tulahead.

Tulahead is owned and operated by the Camp Tulahead Society, a registered, non-profit, interdenominational ministry. It is supported by camper and guest group fees, and the prayer, goodwill and donations of its constituency.

The ministry is cared for by many groups of people including: Partners In Ministry; Board of Directors; Full time Staff; Summer Paid Staff and Volunteers.

WHAT WE DO

Our main focus at Tulahead is our summer camping ministry for youth, ages 8-17. During their six days with us they will participate in, and/or be instructed in many different activities such as: rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, skateboarding, archery, crafts, outdoor education, drama, wide games, free time, 45 alive, general store, theme nights, the bucking bronco, hiking, the zipline, swimming, team sports, the water trampoline, etc. etc..

Through the love and care of our weekly and summer staff we are able to share the gospel with every camper. It is our desire to meet our campers physical, emotional and spiritual needs while they are with us.

We also offer a leadership training program called LIGHT. It consists of three levels, one to be completed each year and starting in grade 10. The program provides the participants with opportunities to lead, learn, serve, work with others, ask questions, build friendships, and grow stronger in their personal walk with Jesus Christ.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Christian Camping reaches today’s youth with the claims of Christ in a way that has impact. The very nature of the camp environment challenges each one’s assumptions about life, purpose, relationships, success and happiness. Christian camping also follows the model of Christ’s earthly ministry, a daily living experience with His disciples in which He taught them many lessons through pictures and illustrations using the great outdoors. Since 1981, thousands of people, young and old, have begun living the Christian life as a result of their experience at Tulahead.
